The standard requires pckaging to be recoverable through composting and biodegradation in industrial compost conditions (around 60°C).
BIODEGRADABILITY
Biodegradability is determined by measuring the amount of CO2 produced over a certain time period. EN13432 requires 90% biodegradation within 45 days.

DISINTEGRATION
Disintegration EN 13432 require 90% disintegration in a compost environment in 12 weeks. The compost at the end of the 12 weeks is screened; less than 10% should remain on a 2mm screen.
